One wonders why someone would risk a felony leaving the
scene when a simple 'didn't see him' works so well so often.

An astounding percentage of cyclist and pedestrian fatalities are hit
and run. And I believe that will continue to be the case until the
penalties for hit and run greatly exceed the penalties for hitting and
staying at the scene.

BTW, no mention of the presence or absence of lights on the teen's bike.
Aside from the business of fleeing the scene, what could be more
pertinent?

There are many reasons why people do that. For example being drunk or
drugged, driving without a license or with a suspended one, carrying no
insurance, being in a stolen vehicle, having drugs or illegal weapons in
the vehicle.

The article in this case doesn't say much about details.

California's history of violence for the vehicle op ....

Shock ....running over a bike would disturb your flow path.

Displacement....vehicle op is 'inattentive' as accident cause.

Time for consideration...to gather thoughts.

set this to music.
