it was a rather attractive looking woman scientist involved in global
warming research. Up the inside of a left turning tipper lorry.

What a shame - such talent, snuffed out by a moment of inattention.

Surely there's a better way to design these junctions?

How about compulsory education and a test of competence for all cyclists
who use public roads.

Fair points, but a junction that kills people for a momentary mistake
could surely be improved. A brilliant young scientist lost, and
some poor tipper driver sitting at home now in shock and grief. This is
devastating for the families, I can't believe there isn't a
better way.

Why not just make it an offence to undertake a lorry while riding a bicycle?
or perhaps absolute no-no to undertake the nearest vehicle to a stop line.
and enforce the law.

Undertaking any vehicle indicating to turn left is risky. Much of the
problem is that many drivers, (I drive & cycle), appear convinced that
all around them can mind read their intentions.

The junction didn't kill anyone, you simpleton.

The lorry driver wasn't arrested, so it wasn't the lorry either.

Off course it is. I stop either in front of, between or behind others.
never along-side of.
And I follow him/her around the corner. And assume s/he will turn even
if s/he is not signalling.
