"Nearly knocked off my feet"
Surely a case for pedestrian walking helmets?
QUOTE: "Steph McGovern, 37, who is expecting her first child next month, admitted she was almost knocked down by a Deliveroo cyclist. The BBC Breakfast correspondent spilled the details during a recent episode of the consumer complaint’s programme, Watchdog. Steph told viewers: “Deliveroo and Uber Eats, I’m sure you’ve all seen the food delivery cyclists whizzing about. Some of them a bit too dangerously. “I was actually nearly knocked off my feet coming out of a shop last week.” https://www.express.co.uk/celebrity-...eo-latest-news |

Don't know. I could not find in the report where the bicyclist "nearly knocked down" the pregnant lady. Being on the footway is a reasonable supposition. I quite often ride on the footpath for short distances if it avoids dangerous situations like being scraped off by a lorry, but only at slow speed and I get back on the road or bike track as soon as possible afterwards. Personally I think bikes should be allowed on footways, provided Pedestrians always have right of way, and The bike must not be ridden at over 8kph (a fast walking speed). Am now awaiting a torrent of flying dirty and turd-stained sharpened chisels. knives and battleaxes from a certain denizen. |

Don't know. I could not find in the report where the bicyclist "nearly knocked down" the pregnant lady. Being on the footway is a reasonable supposition. If it were otherwise, she would not have phrased it in that way. She would have said something more like “I was actually nearly knocked off my feet while I was crossing the road last week.” I quite often ride on the footpath for short distances if it avoids dangerous situations like being scraped off by a lorry, but only at slow speed and I get back on the road or bike track as soon as possible afterwards. Personally I think bikes should be allowed on footways, provided Pedestrians always have right of way, and The bike must not be ridden at over 8kph (a fast walking speed). I cannot agree. Because of the natural and reasonable expectations of pedestrians (all of us), bicycles are not suitably safe for use on footways or footpaths and should be banned from travel along all of them (even the currently so-called "shared" ones). Bicycles are road-going vehicles and should be confined to the carriageway, as other road-going vehicles are. Obviously, and as with other vehicles, access across footways at either end of the journey is a necessary exception, but that is across, and not along, the footway. If it doesn't feel safe to use the carriageway, it simply isn't right to transfer the danger and apprehension to others. One should dismount and walk the bicycle along the footway if it's that important. And that is a better concession than nervous drivers or motorcyclists get. The Deliveroo courier was more likely to have been "tearing along" the road at 20mph and she stepped onto the road in front of him. She would then have been one of the millions of people who are "nearly" run over every day. Nothing happened. |
