OT - Free Linux Newsreader?
In light of my issues "honoring the signiture seperator" I'm
considering trying out a newsreader on my Linux (eeebuntu, which is a netbook version of ubuntu, which is a Gnome platform) netbook. New PC, new OS (I've used Linux but not this version), why not try out a new newsreader too? Thing is, I'm not willing to pay for something I can access just fine for free via a browser. So it has to be free, work on Linux, and I have to like it at least as much as I like the GG interface. Any suggestions? |

Any suggestions? There's been a lot of newsreader discussion in the alt.os.linux.ubuntu forum - you may want to look at the history there. *Like here, many of the discussions devolve into insults and name calling, but there is a lot of good info nonetheless. *-RL Cool, thanks. Will do. |

I'd recommend using Gnus if you are comfortable with Emacs as a text editor. Otherwise Pan (a GNOME newsreader) or slrn. Here's a great place to start looking at the list of available newsreaders for GNU/Linux: http://www.newsreaders.com/unix/clients.html |

Not sure what this has to do with bicycles, but I use "slrn" http://slrn.sourceforge.net/ I don't use ubuntu, but IIRC ubuntu is debian-based, so something like "apt-get install slrn" ought to download and install it for you. -- John ) |

OT - Free Linux Newsreader?
I use Mozilla Thunderbird for text newsgroups and Pan for groups with attachments. While there is a lot to be said for the various character based readers from the point of simplicity and reduced footprint, I have found over the years I have become pretty much a point and click person, only venturing to the command line interface for maintenance purposes.
