Another sparkling example of van-DUH-man's extraordinary debating
technique.

You obviously can't tell a rant from a pearl of wisdom.

So are you saying the bike track under the freeway is an inappropriate
use of
bikes that will destroy wildlife and wildlife habitat? Am I missing
your point?

Also a question: Wouldn't the drivers up on the freeway be exposed to
more polution than the riders below? Surely, assuming there's a slight
breeze blowing (and assuming it's not blowing vertically downwards),
the track 100 foot below the freeway would be relatively polution free.

Mike is opposed to using bikes for anythnig but plodding along down
congested city streets. Only boring utilitarianism is permitted.

Also a question: Wouldn't the drivers up on the freeway be exposed to
more polution than the riders below? Surely, assuming there's a slight

Under stagnant inversion conditions, pollution will likely accumulate
under the freeway; otherwise, yes, a breeze will blow it away. Of
course, Mike advocates riding one's bike only in the city on pavement
anyway (he is bound and determined that nobody should have any real
enjoyment on a bike), and frankly, you'll get just as much pollution
there as you will get under the freeway (an air quality specialist,
which I have been in the past, can fill you in on the technical
details).

Beyond this, Jon, I *guarantee* that he will find a lame way to
illogically refute what you've said here (Gaussian distributions be
damned!) and further alienate people in the process. Resistance is
futile! It is best to ignore him.

Then show me how it's done, sidewalk superintendent. The fact is,
you don't have a clue how to deal successfully with the mountain
biking problem.

You see, that's your problem, defining the hypothesis.
There Is No Mountain Biking Problem.

There is Global warming, Slash and burn agriculture,
the changing of the PH of the oceans, Pipelines built on
permafrost that is no longer permafrost, All kinds of Toxic
Residue from Industrial Activities, destruction of tidelands
and estuaries.

The consequences of rotating tires in the wilderness powered
by muscle alone doesn't even make the first thousand on the
environmental problem list, nor the first ten thousand.

The problem doesn't exist. I suppose that makes you irrelevant.

If that were true, mountain bikers wouldn't be working overtime to
lobby and create bogus "scientific studies" to prove it. Where there's
smoke, there's fire.

Yawn.

If the smoke is crying wolf about an effectively irrelevant
environmental issue, and the fire is junk science, your paranoid
delusions, illusions of grandeur, and hypocrisy, and an inability to
understand the phrase "order of magnitude", then you are correct.

Oh, he understands "order of magnitude" just fine. However, Mike has
stated more than once that the big things will "take care of
themselves." It is his way of avoiding having to deal with them so he
can focus on his pet peeve.
