So will a 9 speed cassette go onto a 10 speed hub OK ?

Not on DURA ACE 10, but yes on Ultegra 10 FH-6600.

You know, you're allowed to call it "Dura Ace" instead of shouting on
Shimano's behalf all the time.

I belive the OLN dimension is the same for a rear 9 speed hub as it is
for a 10 speed. Whats the difference then (apart from cost) ? Is a 10
speed cassette wider thus making the flanges closer together ? Is it
just the materials and weight ? Strength ?

The Dura Ace 10s hub has a different spline height and will accept
only DA cassettes at present. Otherwise, the differences are
primarily in the weight and selling price area from what I can see.
Don't underestimate $himano's willingness to bump the price of its
prestige products just because they're given that cachet.

No, it will only accept 10s cassettes. 10s DA, 10s Ultegra, 10s 105 all
fit, but 9s DA does not.

Weight savings cost money.

Actually the 7800 series hubset looks much like a Campagnolo clone.
Oversized aluminum axle, 3 pawls that are exposed, same for the
front.Freehub not attched to the hub shell. What it isn't is adjustable
on the bike and the axle/cone are hooked together. if ya need a cone,
you will have to get an axle as well. from what I hear from the wrewnch
at Goerlsteiner(Sp?), new axles for the rear are needed fairly often as
they bend.
