Shimano sandals (if you're running SPD). Great for warm conditions!

Commiserations to the Canberra crew. Stood around on Duntroon Parade
ground in minus whatever degrees for too many years. You know its too
cold when you see that the side drummer with a runny nose is drumming
away, nose running, and the dribbles are freezing on the drum skin and
then, you see that the little snot icicles are being "pinged" off the
drum skin all over the band and parade ground.

Eeoooo! Not a good thought.

Yes it is getting colder. Down to 20 overnight, no ceiling fan needed
and snuggle into a sheet.

Everyone has sort of touched on the wet feet problem I need to solve.
Dont need to keep my feet warm but need to keep them dry. The rain
here is warm and it comes down in bucket fulls. Stuff paper in wet
shoes but still wet a day later and then they go mouldy. Not a fashion
colour for the peleton.
All the adds I see on the net are for "warm as toast" booties but not
much mention or water proof. Some say water resistant but! Have even
thought of using thin dive booties and cutting holes for cleats.
Perhaps freezer bags and lackie bands? Sick of wet feet and wet green
shoes.

I have a pair of BBB shoe covers - the exterior is some kind of
plastic/rubber stuff and the inside is lined with a felty kind of
material. They are spray proof, but not tropical downpour-proof.
However, plastic shopping bags over your shoes and _under_ the boot
covers seems to be quite effective in repelling heavy rain for a lot
longer than without.

Lovely image of the cold...

Maybe someone has GOretex ones? I'd tend to go for sandals
myself, if warm rain was a problem.

After all, socks dry more easily....

I suppose you could go into a motorcycle shop, get a set of "foot
frangers" and cut holes for the cleats. Sandals would look better
though!

Ouch! Got off the bike this morning with what feels like frost-bite in

Cripes that hurts! It can only get cooler from here on in. Can anyone
recommend any uber-booties to keep my tootsies warm on the way to work??

Now here's a tip from an expert ... in tropical Qld ... I've been
working at the local milk depot in the evenings for about a year. It's
around 2-3 degrees consistently and I'm in the cold room for 6 to 8
hours at a time. I wear two pairs of thick woollen socks and a beanie.
Seems to do the job well.

Hmmm... somehow I think that two pairs of woollen socks might make my
shoes a tight fit! Nice thought though.

So put one over the outside of your shoes.

I'm wearing MTB? socks, they are a bit denser than roadie socks.

There are MTB socks and roadie socks? Gee, where do you get them? I'm
guessing not at Kmart...

It's easy to tell the difference; roadie socks are white, whilst mtb
socks are any other colour, preferably clashing with everything else you
are wearing.

I suggest you try sealskins goretex booties used a lot by us AJs in the
tropics to keep our socks dry yet still letting the feet breath. I used
them trekking across the Kokoda Track and my feet remained dry except
when I submerged them. I have never tried them while cycling but
shouldnt be a problem with them fitting inside your shoes. Available
from all good camping stores or Army disposals stores. See link below.

There's also recumbent socks and commuter socks. Very similar, but the
'bent socks are longer and have more stripes.

Using Neoprenes but...

last friday got caught in an absolute downpour.
Feet nice and warm/dry.
but after 30mins (I'm guessing) my feet/shoes were saturated.
I can only guess water had run down my (bare) legs and thru socks into
shoes.
Is there anyway to avoid this

Yup, move to Brisbane! Still wet sometimes, but when it's warm (yeah
yeah, shut-up he says). You Melbournites ought to see our riding
weather at the moment!!!

Yeah it's shocking at the moment. I went up Mt Nebo yesterday at 5am
and I even thought about putting on arm warmers!!!
