They last forever.

Those look very cool. So lycra shorts underneath those or
do they have a chamois? I think the key is the flexibility
so they are non-binding. That's what I'm looking for.

They are fantastic! You pay an extra $7 and they sew the Chamois in. I
have not chaffed yet. They are loose and very breathable. No sweating
at all and good A/C for the jewels. Plus they have pockets and belt
loops if you need them.

They look real cool too. And if you have a NMBP jersey tucked in you
look all official and stuff.

Matt,

When was the last time you used an airconditioner in Gunni? Too
HOT.....your crazy. Sorry. I had to laugh, and take the time to give you
crap about living in one of the coldest places on earth (except this winter
of course).

I tried to run nylon shorts (swim trunks w/ liner cut out)
over the Pearls, but things bunch up uncomfortably. I used
to be able to get away with that, but no more.

Is there a decent baggy w/ liner that's suitable for long
periods in the saddle w/o bunching?

I have a couple of pairs of Oakleys that work well. Two different models,
one longer than the other. The only problem is on really hot days they are
too warm even with the vents open. On those days I try and ride lycra
instead. A bonus is pockets for stuff I like to have handy without having
to take off my pack.

Hey, we use a swamp cooler every summer in my office. It's in an old
attic space on Main and it gets pretty warm. At least for a few weeks a
year.
Never had AC in a house here though. Definitely not necessary but the
rocks can get hot on a sunny day.
I go to GJ to ride sometimes too! THAT's hot!

Matt (almost felt like summer this morning at 28!)

OK, shorts or one piece short & top, I use Sugoi or I just got some
higher end MEC ones last fall and they fit well and breathed too. I
used to be a roadie so always was more comfortable in lycra anyways,
even if I did look different at the time. But now many do wear the
lycra now on the trails choosing comfort over looks. I wear black
usually anyways, so it's all good.

Why do you want to go baggie? Before i got proper cycling shorts, I wore
regular clothing. I now have a pair of lycra shorts. The old way, I would
catch on branches, and even my seat. Get a bag, or 2 for your crap in your
pockets, get a jersey with pockets in the back for other stuff..

That's a great question Micheal. I guess it's a fashion
thing. I like the look of baggys. I mean, look at this
Goomba with lycra on:

:-)

You're right tho, it's a real trick finding the right fit
with a baggy.

I roll w/ a Camelback Blowfish so I got plenty of storage,
don't like stuff in my pockets anyway...cept maybe a gel
pack.

What the hell do you mean "proper cycling shorts"? Proper for what?
Do you ever crash? Do your "proper cycling shorts" survive a crash
without getting holes in them? Do those nasty grabby branches ever
tear holes in you "proper cycling shorts"? Or are you just some
barney who plods along doubletracks and thinks that's what it's all
about?

Of course Greg will not listen to this doof's lame "arguments". I
know more than a few mountain bikers who ride baggy shorts because
they are tougher than "proper cycling shorts".

Proper means something designed for cycling, not for other things. They have
the Chamois in it.

As far as spills and other bike crashes, I usually avoid them, I have
scatched myself up badly sometimes. I have never torn my shorts, I have many
rips and holes in other clothes that have been worn trail riding.

Personally I hate double track, its not what mountain biking is about. Mind
you, I do think that some trail builders go a little overboard for some
trails.

Does this clear up the mud?

Well, the baggys I wear have a chamois all built right up there inside them
legs. Them new fangled things just might rate up thar with "proper" shorts
and all but what the hell. I don't think they use them chamois thangs for
lawn mower ridin but I cud be wrong. I'm just a snake killing mountainbiker,
until I get off the bike but then that's a whole 'nuther story.

Uh, I like to get off the bike to kill them. See, sometimes, when
they see or feel me coming, they slither off the trail. Since I don't
want to ride off-trail, that means I have to get off the bike if I'm
gonna kill them.

Wait, wouldn't that make me a snake-killing *hiker*?
