Default Raleigh road bike advice

Hello All,

Why do I not see any Raleigh road bikes out there. I see many
Cannondales, Treks, Specialized. I have an opportunity to get a really
good priceon a Raleigh but a bit skeptical because I don't see any on
the road. I am looking on the range of the Cannodale R5OO or R600 or
Trek 1500. Is there a reason they are not out there. Any advice on the
Raleigh brand would be greatly appreciated.

I've not seen a shop which sells Raleigh road bikes in Melbourne. I
there's no supply, then there's no demand

I seem to recall them being bought out by a Taiwanese company who wer
still trying to flog them off as the same old British heritage
Mongoose is trying, however... the Randonneur looks an alright tourin
bike. But the latest I've heard of Raleigh (besides them being a tota
non-factor in Australia) is that they've changed hands and aren'
producing anything all that classy.

On a side note, has anyone seen the Gitane road bikes? Back in the da
they were pretty cool (when fdjeux was riding them in the late 90's)
but since they've sold out their heritage and become a Taiwanes
company, man, I don't think I've ever seen road bikes looking so tacky
Rainbow/hologram decals- 'nuff said

Hang on, a google search reveals: "Gitane cycles are the embodiment of
quality, style and tradition. This exclusive range of bikes is available
from dealers across Australia. Find out more here. ...

That's advertising for you.
