Default Richmond Park cycling restrictions to ease from Monday

QUOTE:
The Royal Parks has announced that from Monday 22nd June, Richmond Park will be open to all cyclists during weekeday opening hours, easing restrictions that have been in place since 2nd June.

Since the start of the calendar month, use of the park has been restricted for most riders to weekdays only, and to before 10:00 and after 16:00.

Earlier in the coronavirus lockdown, cycling was almost completely banned in the park with exemptions for keyworkers.

In a statement announcing this welcome news, The Royal Parks went on to say, 'We will undertake a managed re-introduction of cycling back into Richmond Park to provide access for weekday commuters.

'This will allow us to monitor and measure the impact of the re-introduction and whether any further measures are required.' Despite the move to open up cycling to all while the park is open on weekdays, weekend access will remain the preserve of keyworkers and those aged under 12, with accompanying family.

Anyone hoping to get a new lap PB will have to wait, however, as route restrictions will remain in place despite the easing of measures around access.

The red route (see park map, above) is for children under 12 only and any accompanying family members will need to be on foot.

In a move designed to keep younger riders safe and giving them an area in which to ride away from faster cyclists and cars, the roads on the eastern side of Richmond Park – around Priory Lane and Broomfield Hill – remain blocked to all adult cyclists at all times.

The Royal Parks says this is 'in order to maintain safety and provide a safe area for children and families to enjoy.'

As it stands, cars – with the exception of blue badge holders entering via Sheen Gate and using the nearby car park – will not be allowed to drive into the park.

Probably why cars are still banned then :-)
Serial lawbreakers.

That's not fair, Motorists only break the law because cyclists force them to do so.
If a Motorist is caught driving at 90mph on a motorway it is because a cyclist forced him to do it.
