The incident happened on one of Manchester’s main cycleways, which runs from Didsbury to the city centre via Withington, Fallowfield, the “curry mile” in Rusholme and the university district.

Here is a photo of the cycleway where the pedestrian was hit after walking into the cycle lane. Visibility seems OK, so I can't understand why the man could not see the cyclist approaching.

There is another photo of the crash site in the Evening Standard that shows that the pedestrian was probably crossing between parked cars before stepping into the cycleway.

Is that why the cyclist, after killing a man, has not come forward to be
identified and have his behaviour investigated?

That's a wide road for an urban area. It's hard to see why the cyclist
wouldn't have seen the pedestrian from some distance away and had time
to brake and/or avoid the victim.

That, of course, is based on an assumption that the cyclist was
bothering to look where he was going.

But as we all know, as part of their continuing efforts to beat their
personal worst, many cyclists in motion gaze at the ground beneath their
bike's front wheel and fail / refuse to recognise the possibility that
there might be something / anything / anybody ahead.

He hasn't come forward yet, has he?

Is that because he's done nothing wrong, d'you think?
