2005 BIG SUR RIDE (Sep 24/25 '05)
SATURDAY AND SUNDAY
September 24-25, 2005 170 Miles 11,000 vertical feet of climbing The Big Sur Ride is a spectacular two-day, 170-mile ride that includes 11,100 feet of climbing. The ride begins and finishes in the quaint village of Carmel Valley. The route runs along the rugged Big Sur coastline, through the beautiful Salinas Valley, and into the dramatic rolling hills of Carmel Valley. Big Sur Riders Big Sur Riders Proceeds from the Big Sur Ride go to support Trips for Kids. TFK is a non-profit organization that brings at risk youth, ages 10 to 17, on day-long cycling trips. These young riders are taught bike skills, cycling etiquette, and environmental education/stewardship. Your participation in the Big Sur Ride will benefit Trips for Kids and help introduce young people to the wonderful sport of cycling. Saturday On the first day, you値l view some of the most spectacular scenery in the world as you ride 92 miles and climb 7,700 feet. From the lovely village of Carmel Valley, you値l travel down Cabrillo Highway past the pounding surf of Point Lobos, along the famous cliffs of Big Sur, and through the majestic redwoods of Pfeiffer Big Sur. As you climb the challenging and scenic Nacimiento Road, you値l enjoy views of the coastline you値l never forget. The ride descends into Fort Hunter Liggett for a night of camping. Dinner will be held in the historic Ranch House. Sunday Your day starts with a hearty Buffet Breakfast in the Ranch House. Following breakfast you値l ride 78 miles and climb 3,400 feet. The ride commences at the Ranch House and proceeds to King City and the famous agricultural region of the Salinas Valley. At Greenfield you値l turn west into the beautiful wine country and rolling hills of Carmel Valley. Rushing creeks and the Carmel River parallel the route. As you ride through the valley, you値l marvel at the rustic scenery and enjoy the backdrop of the high, rugged Santa Lucia mountains. Your adventure ends with a post-ride Lunch at Community Park in Carmel Valley Village. What You Get! Big Sur RidersYour Big Sur Ride registration fee includes a full complement of services designed to make your ride safe and enjoyable. During the ride - eight rest stops (including lunch both days), medical support, SAG wagons, bike repair technicians, toilet facilities, clothing drops, and a well-marked course. At the campsite - camping space, hot showers, bike repair technicians, toilet facilities, and shuttle service to dinner. Also camping equipment transportation to and from the campsite. Full-course meals - a Hearty Dinner with complimentary wine Saturday night, Full Breakfast Buffet Sunday morning, and a Full Lunch on Sunday afternoon. Goodies - Special items in your goodie bag and a free drawing Saturday night for terrific prizes from our sponsors and supporters.
