What is and what isn't covered by warranty?
Hi all
I have a Iron Horse Hybrid purchased from Rebel Sports here in Sydney. It's about 8 months old and the cranks are shot, wobles like jelly. The bike has been in for a service 3 times since purchase so its not been neglected. This time the bike mechanic says that the cranks are not covered by warranty because the crank manufacturer (shimano I think) will not replace them because there worn not broken, so I'll have to fork out about $50 for replacements. Does this seem a reasonable request or should rebel foot the bill and argue the point with the importer? Also does a couple of week's seem like an unreasonable amount of time for the repair. Thanks DavMen |

Extreme mileage aside - I don't think 8 months from new to crap equals
reasonable wear and tear. You are being screwed, my friend. And yes, 2 weeks is a loooong time to wait. Next time, shop through your LBS......... Good luck! Absent Husband |

Thanks DavMen worn? worn how?? WTF are you doing to the bike? Be wierd for Shimano not to brkae them. then again $50 for replacement is very cheap, so perhaps the quality of the origona cranks wasnt that great to start with. I would take the issue to the REBEL head office and let them decide i they want their rep (what little they have ) tarnished b the actions of one employee. 2 weeks for a repair is criminal! Contact the store manager and th head office and let both know you are speaking to the other. Knowin how to lodge a complaint is the trick. F"yooze gets wot yer pays four"Dutc -- flyingdutch |

Thanks DavMen Cranks are shot, plus you'll need a new spindle. Basically, the crank were not installed properly in the first place. It wasn't manufacturing defect, it was an assembly defect. IMHO, this is squarel (pun intended) Rebel's fault. http://draco.acs.uci.edu/rbfaq/FAQ/8f.11.html Ritc -- ritcho |

Thanks DavMen 8 months is no time, 8 years maybe. I've got cranks much older (~1 years) that are still fine. For the cranks to be "worn" in that littl time they had to be loose. If the 'shop' (I use that term equall loosely) was doing the maintenance this should have been checked. Eve a cheap crankset should last years if adjusted correctly & not abused ie used for dirt jumping, every day after school! The 'shop' is trying it on. Don't wear it -- Bikesoiler |
