Moderate physical exercise? Well, everything's relative, I guess. A box of bullets is kind of heavy when compared, say, to a coffee and donut... Yeah, moderate. I wouldn't expect to see you huffing and puffing out there.... Why not a cycling version of biathlon? See how steady you are after 5 or 6 miles of 10% grade climbing. -- Tom Sherman - Earth |

So you're saying your purse is 1.6x as important as your bike? Maybe she was 1.6 times as insert adjective here, examples: crazy, depressed, hormonal, excited, wowed, rich when she bought it. Can't someone make a wheel that stands up to street abuse! Get a bike with plenty of rear tire clearance, build a 36-spoke wheel with a Sun Rhyno Lite rim, and put on a 50-622 Schwalbe Big Apple tire. I haven't tried Sun yet but I have several Mavic 36 spoke rims and I usually throw them out of true within 2 weeks. I'm going to try a local bike shop with a real good rep for wheel building to see if he can't build me something that will hold up. Also the max I can fit between the stay on the rear is a 700x28. With that I have to stay on top of it to make sure it's true. With exceptions made for the bad bunny hop (too much height not enough distance) I go through 1 1/2 wheels a year. I have some wheel where I can probably reuse everything but the rim because it wasn't on the road that long. We have some really bad sections of road that I deal with. It probably doesn't help that I really like to fly down the hills. :-/ Anyway I'll check out the rims. -- Linux Home Automation Neil Cherry http://home.comcast.net/~ncherry/ (Text only) http://hcs.sourceforge.net/ (HCS II) http://linuxha.blogspot.com/ My HA Blog |

With exceptions made for the bad bunny hop (too much height not enough distance) I go through 1 1/2 wheels a year. Wow. I live in a depressed, rust belt area with little money for road paving, in an area with dozens of freeze-thaw cycles to tear up the roads. Our potholes are legendary. My commute to work is along an industrial corridor that carries lots of heavy trucks. But my wheels last approximately forever. I'm riding 27" x 1 1/8" tires on Weinmann A-129 rims, ordinary Shimano hubs and butted DT spokes. These things date from the late 1970s! Is it possible you're using far too little spoke tension? _Something_ must be wrong! |

See http://sheldonbrown.com/harris/rohloff.html and http://www.rohloffusa.com/frame.htm. I have spent a lot on accessories.
