Guns against Critical Mass!
Relax, it didn't happen in the UK but it is indicative of the general
attitude the motorised police have worldwide towards this bunch of cyclists. London CM is perhaps more fortunate than most since it won its appeal to the House of Lords and was deemed a legal procession and since has had much less trouble from the police. Still, who knows what might happen here in the future? "You think you’ve got it bad, dealing with badge-heavy cops in LA sometimes? Here’s a brief report from my cousin Fabio in Curitiba, Brazil: During Brazilian version of Critical Mass, known as Bicicletada, September 27, in Curitiba (south Brazil), about 20 cyclers were threatened with heavy weapons and forced to abandon group pedalling. … Activists destroyed illegal excessive electoral campaign posters that polluted urban esthetics. Several police vehicles started to follow the cyclers who were stopped by exaggerated action. [This] was just at the moment when activists obstructed a car in order to help an elderly man to cross a street at the administrative city destrict. Militaries needlessly pulled out weapons (picture) against the cyclers putting people lives in danger. No one was arrested." Comment... "Though Curitiba is touted as Brazil’s “eco city,” it also suffers the highest rate of car ownership per person in the country. And obviously isn’t all that friendly to the truly eco- and community-friendly mode of travel we all love." http://orange20bikes.com/2010/09/you...ve-got-it-bad/ -- . London CM is perhaps more fortunate than most since it won its appeal to the House of Lords and was deemed a legal procession and since has had much less trouble from the police. Still, who knows what might happen here in the future? This "legal procession" question is all bull**** anyway. Everyone knows that cyclists should be able to do what they like, and motorists should be punished as much as they possibly can be, in order to force modal shift. Therefore Critical Mass should be allowed, unrestricted, everywhere, and any held up car driver who so much as looks ****ed off should be heavily fined and banned for dissent against socialism. Ah, it gives me a hard-on just thinking about it. Driving is a terrible, destructive vice which costs society immeasurably in terms of avoidable deaths and unnecessary spending. Forcing motorists to use other modes is easily the best way of improving road safety. Every time someone gives up driving, KSIs drop by an average of 5.3 over their lifetime. Now that's something to think about. Guy it ain't working in the states, it seems there that it is recreational fun to go out and mow down some cyclists. I wonder why it has gone that way? |

Guns against Critical Mass!
What an excellent idea. Where do we get the guns?
