Default Bike Lights

Any opinion on the the trend (in the countryside around Sheffield at
least) for really bright cycle lights, usually set on strobe?

Some are so bright that I can't make out anything around the source, so
switch on my (also bright) full beam xenon car lights to try and make
sense of it all. I feel it's getting a bit silly.

The worst is when one is coming towards you on the nearside on a cycle path,
and one is wobling up the other side, both with mal adjusted very bright
leds. It is difficult to choose which to mow down.
