classic example of compo cam behaviour
a friend that works for this company told me of this video: the cyclist had
plenty of time to slow and avoid any unpleasantness. It is a typical example of someone with no road sense meeting someone else with no road sense. Both cyclist and van driver need to follow the rules of the road. People make mistakes, people do things deliberately, you have to react and keep yourself safe, it is not rocket science. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCaTU7U6xGs |

Selfish and unobservant. But the cyclist was still behind at 11s, and should've stayed behind until the idiot van driver had sorted himself out. |

And as a cyclist in the bus lane, you would not expect them to pull into the bus lane as that is illegal. What is not expected is the last minute left indicator and pull into the bus lane with left turn. Despite that the cyclist appears to have avoided a collision so an alert cyclist avoids an accident despite a driver with no awareness or road sense. But you knew that didn't you? Or rather you would have had you broken your rule and actually watched the link you posted for a change. -- Tony |

Mind, I agree that the cyclist could and should have pulled up earlier as (and it's annotated on the video) it's easily seen in time that the van's pulling across his lane. No need to confront the van driver/passenger at all really, slow down, drop back and go round the back of the van. Other than being a **** and to make a video of it ... -- Paul - xxx |

It seems likely that some of the cyclist mounted cameras will be used to film incidents that the cyclist has provoked, and some of those will lead to compensation claims: hence compo cam, in this particular case the cyclist probably would have slowed earlier IF the camera had not been there. What is it called ? Risk Compensation? |

A car driver would probably have sounded his horn to make the same point. I've enjoyed the look of shock on a passenger's face as I've politely tapped on the window of a car edging into my cycle lane on my morning commute ("a cyclist in a cycle lane - quel suprise?"). If you don't tell 'em, they keep doing it. |

A good example of why it is never a good idea to overtake on the left in a country which drives on the left. The nearside rear-quarter is always an observational weak spot, even in a fully-glazed car, let alone a van. |
