Default Shimano delays

Does anyone know anything about delays in Shimano's production this
year?

Dahon's 2004 line of folding bikes has been considerably delayed this
year, with some 2004 models not expected until late summer or even
fall. One of the reasons they give for this is delays in receiving
Shimano components. Has Shimano been having delays in production this
year? Has this been affecting other manufacturers, or is Dahon just
low in the pecking order?

Sorry if this is a matter of common knowledge which everyone has been
discussing, but I did google the group first to try to find previous
mentions.

According to my friendly salesperson/mechanic at the LBS, Shimano is indeed
undergoing a severe shortage of higher-end components. He said he heard
about it last November, and a bike he ordered back in January still isn't
here yet because of a lack of the Shimano parts...I didn't ask him what
brand/model...but sounds like what you heard was true.

This from May:

And plenty since (presumably also some before).

It's true - it's been almost impossible to get Ultegra stuff for
months. I've been selling a lot of Campy stuff as a result (and the
customers have realized after the fact that's what they should have
ordered in the first place).

We can't get them in Taiwan either. There are several very good
Taiwanese brand components which are as good as Shimano, but no one
wants the "Taiwano" brands, they want the name brand. TW-Bents is
experiencing this same supply problem. One of the owners went to
Japan to personally visit Shimano and all he got was 300 sets of
deraileurs.
