Shimano Cassettes

Sheldon has a nice page about Shimano cassettes

however, none of my local bikeshops seems to be able to
understand when I tell them I want an 'an' cassette..

Are there any sites where I can work out the product codes
for these cassettes?

It sounds, if I'm reading Sheldon's chart correctly, that you want an
8-speed 11-30 cassette. Tell your LBS that.

I agree. If they're exceptionally stupid and in the U.S., you can tell
them to order Quality Bicycle Products part number FW8564:

Very few parts catalogs will distinguish between cassettes by the
Shimano "series". They'll always list the tooth counts, though.

nanogears, or was it micro-gears...

I could but want to try and avoid international shipping
(to Singapore) at this time. If I can't get it here I may

In the 'Stock Cassette' pul-down menu of Sheldon Brown's gear
calculator, there are letter codes listed for some of the gearings.
