Default Cyclists numbers up a bit, but casualties skyrocket

Leicester:
Rise in cyclists numbers since 2005 is an extra thirty percent, injuries are
up by 60 percent. Safety in numbers? or just more untrained, unskilled,
unlicensed, un-identifiable road users causing more crashes?

Oh, how useful, comparing a high year to a low year. Looks more like a
flat line which means the casualty rate has fallen by 30%.

Oh dear, oh dear - he's really lost the plot.

It's the third time he's posted this link in a couple of weeks - ffs:

31 March, 3 April , 10 April

I wonder if he was ****ed and forgot what he was doing?

Cheerless does not try for accuracy.
"Deputy city mayor responsible for transport, Councillor Rory Palmer,
said about 10,000 cyclists ride in the city every day – an increase of
more than 130 per cent since 2005."

130 per cent up.

Cycling accidents in Leicester:-

2000 - 186

2011 - 170

So accidents are down over 11 years. Depends how you cut and slice it,
and how honest your motivation is. And, as Steve Firth would say, how
statistically significant it is.

I managed to cycle down no fewer than seven 20 mph zones on my way home,
coupled by six miles of ex rail track.
Plus that shared use path past the traffic lights.

I think I was overtaken by just one van on the whole trip - how safe is
that?

The numbers of cyclists has apparently increased by an extra 30 percent
since 2005, yet the number of casualties has risen by 60 percent. Quite
what about that is a flat line ?. Even if it was a flat line of the same
amount, what happened to the safety in numbers theory? Surely the number
of casualties should reduce?

Did you ask the pedestrians how safe they found it?
