Default 9 speed chain link w/ 10 speed chain

I counldn't put the sram 10 speed link for the life of me. so, I used
a 9 speed link and it shifts great. no clunks, skips or such problems.
do I need to get the proper pin cause my combo will eventually break
down? Advise/

You should be OK. When Campy first came out w/ 10 speed many of us
used a 9 speed removable link. The on the link the outer pins may hit
the cassette, but if it's steel, all should be OK.
