Gold Coast Triathletes...
During my longish running race yesterday, I finally understood why
cyclists pay out on triathletes so damn much. I knew some were bad... .... it appears they all flock to the Gold Coast. Oh dear, I saw so much bling moving at about 22km/h. One of my mates, Adam, said he nearly ran down someone on a $10000 bike... all the gear and no idea. "An awe-inspiring collection of expensive bikes, poorly fitted and incompetently ridden." Tam |

"ran someone down"? as in literally, on foot? all the gear and no idea. yeah well, no comment on that from me ... I got a new bike and shoes but not much technique and fitness ... though I have delusions of grandeur in racing E Grade criteriums and taking part in some kind of triathlon "An awe-inspiring collection of expensive bikes, poorly fitted and incompetently ridden." Tam hmmm, expensive and incompetently ridden I can picture, but I would have thought that they would be at the very least properly setup! |

Adam ran the 25km in about 1:45, that's about 14.3 km/h. Scary to imagine someone on bling riding that slow... all the gear and no idea. snip "An awe-inspiring collection of expensive bikes, poorly fitted and incompetently ridden." hmmm, expensive and incompetently ridden I can picture, but I would have thought that they would be at the very least properly setup! That's what I thought also Tam |

geez lighten up you guys ..... ...... even newbies have to start somewhere. At least these over-spec'd people are out on a bike and not driving 2 km in the land cruiser to the night-owl for some more smokes and coca-cola. Sure it might be a lot to spend on a bike, but don't criticize someone just because they can afford their dream bike. I've seen plenty of unfit people in $250 ASICS running shoes too ... .... .... Besides, if these guys continue to totally suck arse at cyucling / triathlon, it just means that some sweet second hand rigs with next to no miles on them will appear in the trading post / on ebay -- monsterman To be totally honest, my criticism is of the bike retailers. Of course they want to sell their expensive bikes, but I feel it is totally irresponsible for them to sell very expensive bikes and then not throw in a proper fitting for the cyclist and not teach them how to ride properly. My first bike was $2500 but worth way more (other people were selling them 2nd hand for that much, saying they were worth $4000). Max made me ride it on the mag trainer for twenty minutes with an approximate fit, so I could get warmed up and then have a proper fit. Then he told me to stay there and practice clipping and unclipping until I was confident. Then the only reason he let me out of the shop with it was because he knew my coach was very strict on learning how to ride before going cycling. I cringe when I see people riding like those people I saw down the coast - but I cringe because from what I can see they were ripped off (and maybe they were too busy to do the research). I certainly saw more examplers on Sunday than I have in Brisbane. Tam |

Tam I'd love to keep bagging triathletes, but while I'm regularly getting my ass handed to me on a plate in A grade by some ironman guys in our club I'll just have to keep my gob shut They're like energizer bunnys, they just get the the front and keep on going. I take a turn at the front and they come round and have another go.....freaks I tell ya.... Adam -- adam85 I bet you beat them in the sprint! Tam |
