Confusing signs
I came across this on Friday, which was confusing:

Confusing signs
Roos Eisma asked:
http://www.colyer.plus.com/temp/z-0706011845asigns.jpg So what does the piece of paper below the two signs say....? It looks like a planning notice. I didn't read it, in fact I didn't even notice it at the time. I spoke to the owner of the house opposite, who happened to be outside when I took the photo. He told me that the road is actually two-way for all traffic (he could turn in either direction out of his drive, which was beyond the sign) and that cyclists were allowed to ride on but that cars aren't allowed to enter the road from that end. There were several drives along this stretch of road and no one-way signs, anyway. -- Danny Colyer URL:http://www.colyer.plus.com/danny/ Reply address is valid, but that on my website is checked more often "Daddy, put that down. We are about to ban cyclists from this road. If you wish to object you will be ignored. We have a councillor in Cambridge who insists such signs (No entry except for cyclists) are illegal and that they should be no motor vehicle signs instead. Which, since motorists ignore anyway the council won't use. Andrew |

According to TSRGD, no-entry sign is diagram 616, and the only allowed exception plates are "Except buses" and "Except local buses". The 'Except cycles' plate can only go on one-way, vehicular traffic must turn ahead, no turn and no-through-road signs. regards, Ian SMith -- |\ /| no .sig |o o| |/ \| |
