Default Basso: Armstrong will be a beast at the Tour

LANCE also said in his blog recently that he's under 160 lbs. I'm
pretty sure that in '99 he was under 150 lbs, and over the following
years, gained up to about 155 to 160 lbs going into the Tour. If he
gets back to 155 by the start of the Tour this year, it should help
his climbing a lot.

What it appeared to me in the Giro wasn't that Lance didn't have the
strength but that he didn't have the endurance. Losing weight won't help
that a lot.

Dumbass -

It's amazing how you don't know a single thing about bike racing.

thanks,

dumbass,

weight is a biggie, just ask taylor phinney :

Stage 1 Chambéry - Saint-Jean de Maurienne 95km
1 Ben Gastauer (Lux) Chambéry Cyclisme Formation 2:28:54
5 Taylor Phinney (USA) USA National Team 0:01:34

Stage 2 Scionzier - Saint-François Longchamp 129km
1 Mirco Saggiorato (Swi) Burgis Cycling Team 4:39:00
42 Taylor Phinney (USA) USA National Team 0:17:56

Stage 3 Saint-Jean de Maurienne - La Toussuire 129km
1 Thibaut Pinot (Fra) C.C. Etupes Le Doubs 3:41:02
26 Taylor Phinney (USA) USA National Team 0:18:32

Then it's clear. All that needs to be done is to weigh the riders and
extrapolate the results. That would sure save a lot in race promotion
fees and expenses. Contact the UCI immediately.

Any explanation why Sammy Dumoulin isn't stomping people in the longer
stages...? He's tiny, so his endurance must be huge.

Lance's recent performanc at the Nevada city race is encouraging. But
it's hard to tell if Lance will be able to contend at the TDF. My
guess is that Lance will go for some stage win's. Astana has a strong
enough team that they can afford to let Lance go for a stage win
especially in the first week. There is still the chance that Lance
will win the 1st TT and then stay in close enough and take the 2nd TT.
This looks to be a exciting TDF in any case.

My take is that AC and LA will divy up the two remaining grand tours
based on their overall objectives and based on how the Tour unfolds.
I think Contador wants another Tour more than he wants the Vuelta, and
LANCE wants to add the Vuelta to his palmares to not be a one-trick -
pony in the history books. *He wanted the Giro, but that didn't
happen, so the Vuelta is next best.

Agree except ...

I never expected Armstrong to compete in the Giro.
All of what he did in the Giro is colored by my predisposition.
He rode along, surged some, rode a time trial that is mediocre
or dismal for Lance Armstrong, and came in, what? twelfth?
His Giro ride accorded with my sense of what he would do.

Will he ride three grand tours?
Contador sat out the Giro.
Armstrong treated it as a training ride.
Difficult to handicap the TdF.
Saxo Bank vs. Astana.

Just out of curiosity - just what the hell would that have to do with
anything at all?

51 finishers in a 90 minute crit. Two going to the Tour. What does it
indicate?

Well it shows that Lance can attack. But like I said it's hard to
judge.

I don't know that the result itself indicates all that much, but he is
a fair bit leaner, and that is a good thing when the road goes up,
right?
