I don't know that the result itself indicates all that much, but he is a fair bit leaner, and that is a good thing when the road goes up, right? R The odds makers have Lance as second favourite. They must know more than us. Personally I don't think he'll place that high. Of course, there's a 50/50 chance that he might. Andre |

But Nevada City is most definitely not any other crit, as you certainly know, and it was a really good field. Accounts from strong guys in the race are unanimous: Lance's power was very impressive. Nevada City is like doing forty closely-spaced 90-second intervals at way over threshold and it appeared that Lance was going just as good at the end. So, I think his result indicates that he may be able to withstand repeated attacks on the big TdF climbs from Contador, you know, the world's best stage racer. BTW, here are two nice videos of portions of Nevada City: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yPtOUy5oZc http://deltavelo.com/09_race_videos/..._city_men.html |

I think LANCE is putting a big psyche job on him. Nevada City is right up there with the Dauphiné Libéré as an indicator of Tour form. Bob Schwartz |

You can't really infer how well Lance will do on the big climbs from this race. But it does give some indication of Lances form. If Lance is off form there is a slight chance that he may try to race to increase his form during early stages of the TDF. This will proabably prove difficult, because of Contador and Leipheimer as well as other riders. I don't think it gives much understanding of Lance's condition since he was riding against essentially amateurs and the race was only for an hour and a half. Obviously he showed that he can ride near max output for an hour and a half but we can't tell what his max output is compared to a "real" competitor. |

I agree the race only indicates that Lance's form is improving. But you can't compare this to pro race conditions. |

Dumbass - Nevada City calls for a completely different type of effort than a hors climb in the TdF. For example, Oscar Friere (or the heavy, non-TdF contending young version of LANCE) likely could've beat this version of LANCE at Nevada City. When it comes to the hors climb, it doesn't mean jack does it? LANCE is doing well at repeated 90 second anaerobic efforts. That's great for a "Masters Skinny" like him. Still, it doesn't mean he'll be able to take Contador in an hors climb. IMO, a more hopeful indicator is his light weight. thanks, Kurgan. presented by Gringioni. |
