because I was here, on the road or watching the tv, and I can tell you that
Lemon has always been applauded. In fact Armstrong was perhaps the first to
be hated, not because he was american, but because he was snob and paranoiac
..Anyway even Lemon and Floyd didn't like Lance, and his wife didn't stay
longer with him, so I think this guy have some problems with people, that's

Ya know, you were there and I wasn't, but at the time we weren't
hearing that the French applauded and admired Lemond. In fact, I'd read
that when the French didn't misspell his name as you do, they would
pronounce it LE'mond (accent first syllable) to make quite clear that
there was nothing French about him.
It's certainly understandable that French fans of Hinault and Fignon
would favor them. But this is the first I'd ever heard that the French
had any love for Lemond.

You mean Anquetil was wrong? He thought the French hated him and he
was French. You can also see a few second place or support French
riders looking a bit grim and staring in the other direction when in
the same photos with him. If you are looking for at least a mild case
of paranoia, he was probably the star to start with. OTOH, he is also
probably the person to put on the Livedrunk(tm) poster.
