Shame really but in the overall scheme of things it's pretty trivial. |

I checked the archives here and it seemed the consensus was his "retirement" prior to winning World's was a publicity stunt. In retrospect it was an obvious attempt to dodge drug tests, but perhaps there was an overestimation of out-of-competition testing during that era.
