Default Old 8sp Deore XT best way to control it on road bars?

Hello All:

I am putting together a very diverse group of parts to build up a bike.
The drive train will be NOS Deore XT 8sp rear and triple front. Will old
Ultegra 8sp triple (I assume they made triples back then) STI levers work?

And yes, I know I can use bar end levers but I'd rather not.

THanks,

Jim

The Shimano road STi levers won't shift a Shimano mountain
front without some modification. Often simply moving the
wire to the other side of the anchor will do. You're OK in
the rear as long as you have an 8-spaced cassete.
