Default Mechanical Disc pads (Stock)

Hi I was wondering any tech head info hunters out there ever come accross
information on what Disc brake pads from the Factory are made out of.

I Have hayes mechanicals. some model that is a pre release.

Wondering if they contain any nasty Asbestos or anything like that.

Disc brakes are new enough to use modern pad material. I don't know
specifically what Hayes uses, aside from sintered metal and semi-metallic.

I
know the some (at least EBC) produce Kevlar pads, but have never heard of
anyone making mineral based pads. (Okay, technically metals are minerals,

I am
just making the distinction between rock and metallic minerals.) So I

don't think
you need to worry. AFAIK, the asbestos scare was a tad overblown. Unless
you're ripping down fireproof ceiling tiles without a mask....

OK . so I was holding the bike up by its seat so the rear was airborne so to
speak I dropped it into the middle front cog. and perhaps the 3rd or 4th
gear gave it a good whak on the pedal and slowly stopped did it 3 or 4
times. i notced a wierd smell and some fine powder in the air but it was too
late i had taken a whiff and a bit went into my mouth/throat. im just
paranoid..

why is my text blue and hyperlinked. why now of all nights

The standing order not to lick the pads still applies though

Oh, great. And I was told to do that to stop brake squealing!

It might stop the brakes squealing but I sure when the skin on your lips
stuck to the hot metal you'd start squealing! :-(
