Perhaps I'm being old fashioned but I would preface your post by
saying, "It describes parents who allow their teenagers..."

Well, it's the teenagers having the delusions and it's the parents' job
to fight them.

It used to be called raising your children to be
"proper"ladies/gentlemen.

And it used to be said as a compliment.
