Published at 17:47, Friday, 06 May 2011

A cyclist has been seriously injured in a high-speed mountain bike
crash at Whinlatter Forest Park.

Andrew Southwell, 40, from Maryport, suffered serious head and neck
injuries when he came off his bike while riding with friends on
Tuesday evening.

The North West Ambulance Service and Keswick Mountain Rescue Team were
called to the scene just before 8.20pm and a paramedic and the rescue
team doctor helped stabilise Mr Southwell.

Search dog handlers helped splint Mr Southwell and take him to the
mountain rescue team ambulance.

He was picked up by an RAF helicopter at around 9.45pm and flown to
the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. His condition was described
as serious but stable.

Necessary! It would be a department of
redundancy department. No one can rightly
call you a criminal unless you have been
convicted (of something more than a mis-
demeanor).

Maybe the mountain biker was run off the trail by a HANDSAW wielding
criminal?

It is far more likely that the mountain biker was just typical of the breed,
i.e., a moron!

But why does Tom Sherman care about mountain biking? He is strictly urban
scum and has never even seen the countryside, let alone a wilderness. He is
permanently tethered to Chicago, a fate worse than death.

It is far more likely that the mountain biker was just typical of the breed,
i.e., a moron!

But why does Tom Sherman care about mountain biking?

Uh Ed, I own a mountain bike and have even ridden it off road [1] on
occasion.

He is strictly urban
scum and has never even seen the countryside, let alone a wilderness.

Uh Ed, I lived at the end of a mile long, unpaved, dead-end road in
Wisconsin as a child, with the nearest incorporated village more than 7
miles away.

He is
permanently tethered to Chicago, a fate worse than death.

Uh Ed, I live in Iowa.

But thanks for playing.

[1] I of course, have much faster and more comfortable alternatives to
ride on the road.

Just be damn sure you never ride it on a hiking trail!

He is strictly urban
scum and has never even seen the countryside, let alone a wilderness.

It has been a longtime since you were a child. Get over it!

He is
permanently tethered to Chicago, a fate worse than death.

Uh Ed, I live in Iowa.

Unless you live in Western Iowa, you are tethered to Chicago. All of Eastern
Iowa is in the whirlpool sink that is Chicago. In fact, you have to get to
Colorado before you are free of its tentacles.
