Drivers trained not to kill.

We have become used to cyclists being trained how not be killed on our roads. Many schemes exist to try achieve this but without the cooperation of their killers it would seem to be a little one-sided. Until recently there was virtually no special training for their potential killers, strange as it may seem. In the latest issue of LCC's 'London Cyclist' however is an article.entitled 'Lorry drivers go back to school', about special training held in Lambeth. An awareness session starts with a classroom discussion and then in part two the drivers get on bikes, arranged by CTUK. At the moment this only happens in Lambeth but it is hoped to extend the scheme to other boroughs and also to Lambeth's 'essential car users' and then to bus and lorry drivers. Who knows, it could become nationwide and eventually lead to far fewer cyclists ending up dead on our roads and pavements. Blimey! A DougPost that says something sensible. Whatever next? |
