Default 4 Double crank in 68mm shell = 110mm spindle?

Hi there.

IIRC in a 68mm bottom bracket shell and using an old school double crank you needed a 110mm long spindle if using a cartridge unit. Is that correct?

Thanks and cheers

Which school was that again?
Classic Record are 115 asymmetric as are DuraAce 7400.
Stronglight 93 & classic TA are 118 asymmetric. Sugino Maxy
and SR Silstar are 122 asymmetric. Record & Chorus square
taper (1992~2006) are 102 symmetric. A few hundred other
not-110 examples abound.

Thanks Andrew.

What would I need for a SR Royal crank set?

Is there someplace I can find a table for the various cranks and spindles?

Cheers

It looks like the table of BBs on weight weenies could use a little help from Andrew, esp. w.r.t. classic record and super record spindle lengths. No offset data unfortunately.

Thanks Andrew.

I guess that means that the crank spinle taper is different than that of Shimano of the same era

Nope, that was before Shimano reinvented taper section.

Standard (old timey) section, same as Dura Ace of the era. A
DuraAce 7400 BB would be perfect in fact.

BTW the taper angles are the same, modern Shimano use a
different section of that taper. See center & right he
http://www.yellowjersey.org/photosfr...t/3SPINDLE.JPG

The leftmost, which was a different angle, was abandoned
before 1980.
