Bill, in the big picture, how important is that? We're talking right
now about a guy (BushCo) that's taken action for his ego that's killed
3,000 US soldiers and contributed to the deaths of several hundred
thousand other people. Berets are clearly important to you and some
of the military, but as a US citizen I just don't care very much.

To the outside world it's not. In the big picture it's not, but for
people on the inside of the asylum it was. It's one of a ton of
bitches that go on inside the family. No reason at all anyone else
should care.
The closest cycling equivalent would be to allow anyone who wanted
to, to race in a National Champions jersey without earning it.

Yeah I was in quite a few. There weren't a lot more problems due to
that, and watching the women wander the halls in their Victorias
Secrets 3oz. specials was nice, but caused some harrassment claims. I
know of a couple of Orgies that did happen except they were off post
and with horny students. No different from college.
If you follow any of the military news, one of the few things that
keeps making the mainstream press is harrassment, and mis-treatment of
women, and there's a lot of it, and commanders who will ignore it.
There's also an awful lot of really questionable reports, and actions
taken by hyper-sensitive commanders for CYA reasons. If they don't do
exactly what a female wants, the female files a Congressional, and
even if it's not valid, when that hits the Pentagon the **** hits the
fan. I believe the standard now is that the commander has two weeks to
explain just why the **** he allowed something to go to a
Congressional. The key is the military has defined harrassment as
anything that makes the person uncomfortable. How do you prove they
weren't, or were faking it?
One really great kid we had come in was on a serious career fast
track. He had only been there a few days and went out to the club he
saw one of the women he worked with, and had become friends with,
sitting at the bar. He walked over put a hand on her shoulder, told
her "You look great". They talked and she bought him the beer she said
she would as a welcome. They talked for a while. Her boyfriend came
in, got jealous, gave her a ton of ****.
To make him happy she filed a harrassment charge against the kid. The
commander got this whole story before making a decision, including
from the bartender. He still slammed the kid big time and screwed his
career because if you show "actions taken" in your reports you ARE
fighting the problem and look good. Unfortunately I've seen this used
as a weapon way too many times. Didn't get the job in the shop you
wanted, ****ed at the suupervisor, or anyone else? Get them alone for
5 minutes and claim they did something to make you uncomfortable. The
standard is the same as for Pound judging dopers in most cases.
This has basically led to no more closed door counselling sessions,
and several witnesses having to sit in whenever an officer or NCO
wants to discuss anything with a troop.
Add people who are openly attracted to each other sharing the same
showers, toilets, etc...it's rife for abuse and accusations and
incidents. Remember the idea to seperate men and women is based on
reducing sexual, and other types of incidents based in sexual
attraction.
Basically you've got every problem as in outside society but in a
massively high stress pressure cooker filled with weapons. Guys
killing each other, and beating the **** out of each other, or the
women happens at least as much as it does on the outside because of
this ****, and when you add in frequent deployments where the
significant other is left behind, worried as hell, scared, and
stressed out **** happens. You are deployed and feel the same. Then
the troop comes home and finds out, and goes off, or just thinks ****
happened and goes off. Happens constantly, and given the realities of
the life is pretty understandeable.
It's an incredibly volatile mix, and the training troops get, and
what the families get sucked 6 years ago and probably still sucks.
The only thing that I'd say helps a little bit now is that it's
obvious that if you enlist you are going to war. It used to be treated
as, advertised as, "college with world travel", and the training was
SO watered down these kids weren't ready for what they were getting
into. I believe that's why the mental health issues are so widespread
this time.
Americans are nuts (retarded) about anything involving sex and the
human body, for the most part and society as a whole isn't dealing
with the issue well at all so the last thing we need to do is toss one
more explosive into the military mix before society, where you aren't
forced into situations, figures this out.
I can't even imagine the number of complaints and congressionals that
would be filed with people who are openly sexually attracted being
forced to shower together in open bay showers. Then you'd get "he
said, she said" **** going, people taking sides, accusations of lying,
etc...This **** happens now without adding in the open sexual
attraction and rips units and shops apart and that gets people killed.
I'd like to say that all the reports in the press overplayed the
current problems, but given the definitons they are working with, I'd
say they are understating the reality.
I don't have a good solution, and can't think of any until we improve
the species.

Dude, is that a Fatty Masters troll? If so it's got potential,
but should have been launched in it's own thread.

Race has sometimes been used the same way. I knew a black female once
who worked both ends of that. She ended up with a black female
supervisor who made all sorts of crazy demands on her, like "show up for
work on time". So it worked out.

Yes, exactly. Since American society doesn't deal with open sexuality
well, we can't really expect it of our military.

On the other hand, I'd say the military does better with race relations
than US society in general. So maybe we're just not being creative
enough. Blacks in the military were initially segregated because of all
the problems of mixed populations too.

I'd like to say that all the reports in the press overplayed the

Well, lots of problems. Seems to me like the press bounces back and
forth between ignoring problems and playing them up.

Dude, this is important. As you know, many Middle
Eastern cultures are quite homophobic. They fear
the possibility or expression of homosexuality
(male, especially). If only the US had a military
full of outrageous, flaming, armed-to-the-teeth
loud and proud queers and queens, we would have
terrified the Iraqi factions into settling up and
making nice by now.

Let's not forget to have them running Abu Ghraib and Gitmo. Then there
would be no need for waterboarding, electro shock, and other torture that
so upsets all the liberal pansies out there. The only "torture" that
would be necessary would be to have a drag queen gently caress the bad
guy's thigh, and he'll be singing like a canary in no time.

We can only speculate. I believe that whoever was President had to deliver
a victory after 9/11 to repair our injured national pride.

You mean like Howling Howie who just said that he has been holding talks
with "foreign governments" so that they "know that there is an opposition
party in the USA"???

The Democrats are telling the terrorists that if they just hold out long
enough the US will vote in Democrats just to show their disapproval of the
way the war is going and then the Dems promise to surrender.

People get the government they deserve.

They've already done something along those lines with menstruating
women, etc...I wouldn't be surprised to find out they'd done what you
suggested.
