There is an important distinction to be made between not supporting
something, and making it illegal, don't you think?

Dumbass (and I mean it): we have a Bill of Rights to prevent the
majority from using democracy in sick ways. I hope Prop 8 is
overturned on constitutionality.

Yeah, in the US at least. There's some backsliding in some parts of
the world.

Exactly. How the hell can one think it's a reasonable thing to allow a majority
vote on the status of a minority? That's a ridiculous premise.

Dumbass -

It's only ridiculous if one desires that the system be fair.

Some people don't want that. They want the law to make everyone act
like them. It's what freedom is all about. After all, freedom isn't
free.

thanks,

K. Gringioni.

Not too bright either on this one, but 80 percent of your fellow black
Americans are against gay marriage, so does that mean they are out of touch,
or behind the times? If you knew anything about prop 8, it doesn't stop
civil unions, but just reinstates the cardinal hallmarks of what marriage
has always been, between a man and a women. This should insure that schools
teach that marriage is between a man and a women, and not to teach that its
ok for boys to grow up and partner with other boys.

There is your sick, that's sick!

Totally, but since I voted as a registered Democrat, I wanted to vote on
all
the ballots. If I skip prop 8, then that means I don't care enough to vote
one way or the other. Also I voted for Obama, but he's probably against
prop
8. We are not just a divided country, but divided on all kinds of issues
all
across the board, six of one, half a dozen of the other. America is a mesh
or fabric so to speak, but its a torn fabric. However, we are still a
democracy and the people have spoken. You can have as many hummers or
SUV's
or McMansions as you want, but no one is entitled to more then their fair

Wait till the next election. There's a lot of energy about this. I can
see it on facebook - my network is some of my college/cycling friends
(age 35-45) and otherwise mostly art community friends (ages 20-40)
and I was pretty stunned at the depth of passion on this one. I think
the passing of Prop 8 is sort of like a Pearl Harbor moment.

I personally don't really care that much. This sort of civil rights
issue will change, just like the steps we've made from the 60's, where
voting activists were lynched in the South to where we are today.
Someday all the old bigots die off and the freer thinking young people
take over.

thanks,

K. Gringioni.

We will see, but I agree times are a changing. However, don't expect
everyone to change, nor should they. There are three different generations
out there, those dieing off who grew up in the great depression, and fought
in WW2, Korean war. The baby boomers, Vietnam and hippy culture era of the
60's. Then there is today's free thinkers, modernists, progressionists, or
whatever, but I think history will bear out in time that this will of been
considered a bad experiment in society.

Lots of backsliding right here in the USA!

Dumbass and I mean it:

I'm pro choice, so you can't bundle me up with that crowd, but you should
remember that at least half or more then half of all Americans are against
all these issues, at least according to the last chung charts I saw from the
last election cycle. That means that hundreds of millions of people don't
side with the free thinkers of whatever you want to call them.

There are lots of things I don't like in this world, nor should I have to be
forced to like them. I can give you a whole list of things I don't like.
Prop 8 is just one issue.

I think it should be illegal to have a female bike racer fetish.

Anybody here know how we can get that on the ballot? People like Bruce
are sick! Sick! They belong in jail.

thanks,

K. Gringioni.
