All those 'successful' people in their 'viable' transport choice.

The camera makes it look fast and scary but in places the shadow of his
legs show he's just cruising. Looking at the time taken to do each car
length he's mostly only doing 10-11mph.

This works so well for the cyclist because all those car drivers are
behaving really well. It only takes one daft driver to open his car door
at the wrong moment, and the cyclist's day is ruined. If the cyclist
repeats that mode of cycling daily, sooner or later he'll unfortunately
meet his nemesis.

If a person drives at 70mph on a motorway, sooner or later he'll
unfortunately meet his nemesis. It's the way things work.

The usual idea amongst the cycle ignorati is that he is bound to be
going flat out, head down and any pedestrian walking across between the
vehicles will have a bad day.

I love the smell of jealousy in the evening.

There's no question it's quick, and I used to do it all the time when I
was a yoof. It's just that watching that video highlights the risks I
used to take without caring or even being aware of it.

It's odd that we get more cautious as we get older, when of course we
have less to lose!

Cyclegaz is an experienced cyclist. Most of the time he was between or to the right of the motor traffic where dooring in very unlikely.
Passing parked cars is the most likely time to get doored.

It's more a case of being increasingly aware of you own mortality. You still lose your only life no matter what age it happens.
