France and the Tour de France
Here it is - the cleanest Tour on record according to many.
And yet the first Frenchman to finish was Sandy Casar clear down in 14th place and MORE THAN 6 MINUTES BEHINFD 13th place! It appears that cycling is no longer a French sport and it is probably a good thing that AMO is trying to buy up all the rest of the world's grand tours since it won't be too long before the average Frenchman says, "Tour de What?" |

Say what you will, I saw what seemed to be a fair number of younger French cyclists showing their stuff, more, it seemed, than in years past. I think there's a new crop of French cyclists coming up, guys who might be able to do a lot more than Moreau ever could. --Mike Jacoubowsky Chain Reaction Bicycles www.ChainReaction.com Redwood City & Los Altos, CA USA |

Four positives during the 2008 Tour, a few more pre-emptive withdrawls, maybe a few more announcements coming. These included stage winners who affected the development and strategy of the race. 2007 had three I think. 2006 had ONE positive. There was of course a huge drug scandal before the start, but that doesn't speak for the "cleanliness" of the race itself. So it appears, 2008 was the dirtiest Tour in years. |
