Adult tricycles for carrying kids
Hello...
I have been wondering if I can use an adult tricycle for carrying my son. I feel that if I could put him in a car seat behind me on a tricycle, it may be better than if he was being pulled in a trailer behind me or sitting in a bike seat on the rear rack. That said, it was not obvious to me that commonly-sold tricycles in the US would accommodate such an arrangement. Does anyone have experience with this? Any suggestions about tricycle brands or websites/stores? Thanks! |

How about a recumbent trike with child in trailer at back. See http://www.ice.hpv.co.uk/images/trik...er_jpg_jpg.htm I have a recumbent trike (Ice T) and it is *incredibly* stable, easy to steer and *huge fun* Cheers, helen s |

I used to work in an aircraft factory and we used both bicycles and
tricycles to get around the plant. What I remember about the tricycles was that they were surprisingly unstable. A tricycle turns by turning the front wheel rather than by leaning as on a bicycle, so the opportunity of turning too sharply is much larger. Going around a corner at much more than a walking pace will raise the the wheel on the inside of the curve off the ground with surprising ease. A tricycle looks safer and more conservative than a bicycle but I suspect that your son would be safer on the back of a bicycle than on a tricycle. Try riding one through a number of different kinds of turns and stops before putting your son on it. You don't say how old your son is, but if he is old enough to sit up on a seat and hold onto handlebars, a better choice might well be one of those children's trailer bikes which has a bar to daddy's seatpost where the front wheel would otherwise be. wrote in message oups.com... Recumbent trikes, on the other hand, are incredibly stable - much more so than an upright bike. On icy roads, give me a recumbent trike instead of an upright bike - I speak from personal experience on this :-) Cheers, helen s |
