Wow! 399 MB INJURIES in 10 years...? 54,000 HOME DEATHS in ONE year! Mountain biking is SAFER than being at HOME! I see that your powers of reasoning are as bas as your ability to read. Total numbers are irrelevant. What is important in defining safety is injuries per person per hour of the activity. It's obvious that mountain biking is more dangerous than staying at home. Playing Mike's own game, the injury RATE of mountain bike operators as opposed to people getting injured at home has got to be a very small number. Sitting at home is more dangerous when there are (assuming the same number of at-home injuries each and every year ending up in hospitals) 540,000 at-home injuries in 10 years vs. 399 mountain bike injuries in the same period. Alternatively, there are 54,000 at-home injuries in one year (as reported in the article) vs. 40 mountain bike injuries. You have to admire Mike's ability to pick and chose minor facts that support his agenda and ignore major facts that tend to shoot him down. Maybe "admire" is not the right word ... Sure. And getting stepped on must be significant, because millions of ants get stepped on every year. Idiot. === I am working on creating wildlife habitat that is off-limits to humans ("pure habitat"). He completely ignores the numbers (which HE began with the first post) and makes some inane statement about ants getting stepped on. No Mikey, not this time. Explain the numbers! Even given that your 399 is representatitive of only 3 hospitals in one area, it is over a 10 year period. 54,000 DEATHS in one year nationwide just from accidents in the home! That's 540,000 in 10 years. Florida has 20 trauma centers. Lets assume every state has 20 trauma centers. (Does Rhode Island have 20...? I doubt it.) Thats 20 x 50 = 1000. Now, 540,000 / 1000 = 540. Thats 540 home deaths in 10 years vs 399 mt biking injuries in 10 years. But wait, thats 399 for 3 trauma centers! 399 / 3 = 133. Now its 540 home accident deaths to 133 mt biking injuries! Now... Just what the hell do ants getting trampled by hikers have to do with the original, and misleading, post you made? |

You wouldn't know " statistically significant" if it bit you in the ass. Your only claim to "statistically significant" is your attempt to manipulate information to create your statistics. You never offer consistency in your "statistics". You only make a claim then attempt to justify it with "statistically significant". BTW - the term only applies if you calculate ALL the available data. The mere FACT you are trying to ignore the very real number of home accident deaths PROVES you have not examined all the available data to form a conclusion in which to make a "statistically significant" comparison. |

You can not support YOUR OWN statements when REAL information is placed in front of you. Instead you duck and run away leaving your trademark "yawn" or "did you say something?" rather than acknowledge the truth as it actually is. Every "yawn" you post simply signifies another victory for off-road cyclists and their cooperative efforts with others as well as highlighting the cowardly behavior of a liar when confronted with actual information that was originally distorted. |
