Default Saying Hi on the Bike Path

When passing by another biker on a path do you:

Vocalize a Greeting?
Gesture a Greeting?
Stare at the other biker to se if they are going to say or do
anything?
Stare stoically straight ahead?
Pay no attention to what other people are doing?

or...

IF they are wearing a helmet, they get a nod, a wave, a smile and
sometimes all 3.

When they have no helmet I don't even notice them.

Lewis.

As someone who rides in a ball cap, this post made my day. Anyone who
would make a post like this, especially with the capital "IF", is IMO
a capital twit and I'd rather be splattered with dog poo than your
attitude.

One last thing. When a rider like me, in normal looking clothes and a
ball cap, passes you - you notice. You can pretend you don't, but I
hear the shifting and the heavier breathing once I am in front. :-D

Surely it depends where you are. If you are in Cambridge UK, with
more cyclists than Amsterdam, greeting every cyclist would be
ridiculous - more than a quarter of the traffic is bikes. However,
if you are somewhere where you only see one or two cyclists a week,
that's different.

Here in Britain it's the practice to say good morning, or hi, or
whatever, when overtaking a cyclist, rather than "passing on the
right", or ringing a bell

We have a fair number of people on horses too, and we say hi to them
as well, but that's only to avoid spooking the horse.

Could just be Lewis bracing for the testosterone draft as you blast by. *=]- Hide quoted text -

Quite possible - but considering the lack of spandex, helmet, etc.
wouldn't it be more of a sneak attack? Anyway, I burn
testosterone on the dirt bike, and sometimes the mountain bike - I
ride the road bike to get places and exercise. Solo, on-road cycling
never struck me as much of a testosterone & adrenaline type thing. I
think it's more likely he's just trying to get a look at my super-cool
abrasion resistant headgear http://picasaweb.google.com/DanKMTB/...84619127874242

Thanks for your reply.

Would you like the poop to be warm and soft, or cold and dry?

Either would be preferable to your nannyish attitude.

I never responded to the original post, but around here we just nod to
the other rider, if anything at all. No talking, though. Not being
rude, but that is traditional.

yep.
sounds like it was posted by one of those self obsessed gits in
spandex, you know the sort - they haul their bikes around all week and
the back of their SUV and then ride in a big clump with themselves on
Saturday.
