and if he was doping.......
.... then cycle racing has hit a new low.
no doubt about it, cycling will be in turmoil, the actions of one man may possible leave a hitherto tarnished enough albeit wonderful sport in dissarray with sponsors, TV companies etc reluctant to further invest. if ever there was an example of why doping should be completely cracked down upon, this is it. personally, i fear the worst for landis and the reputation of the sport, it crossed my mind during stage 17 that he had taken something, i remain open minded however and await the next stage results of the process. " Landis's abnormal ratio has already broken new ground. Not only does he face becoming the first Tour winner to be struck off for doping, it means that the winners of all three of cycling's major Tours are now either banned or fighting possible bans, placing the sport's credibility at a new low. The result of the Tour of Spain is unclear since its winner Roberto Heras was banned for use of the blood booster erythropoietin but the race has not been awarded to the runner-up Denis Menchov and the Giro d'Italia winner Basso is contesting the Operation Puerto allegations. Thoughts crossed my mind as well after Stage 17, his comeback from the previous day was simply astounding. My thoughts weren't just whether he had taken something, but rather that he may have taken TOO MUCH of something and it would be detected. The timing was ironic because that evening I was also going through my old cycling magazines and had just finished reading a 1990 article by Paul Kimmage about the pervasiveness of doping on the tour. |
