here's a side view...broken tib and fib...10 inch incision...9 screws,
32 staples...two surgeries... six months off the uni...9 months not
working...more pain than I care to experience again. In case any of you
are considering breaking your leg to this extent...this injury cost
$30-35,000 USD. Thank God for insurance and many generous people.
If you are doing any kind of trials or trail riding and you do not have
insurance...you may as well give up uni and go to the nearest casino or
lottery and spend all your money. Thankfully I picked up insurance for
the first time in 4 years just 4 months before my accident.

Most impressive X-rays Dustin, it looks like something a terminator
would have. Pity about the cost, time and pain, but it is reassuring to
hear that you are riding and performing again. I am very lucky to have
never broken any bones yet. I do not look forwards to finding out how it
feels.

I've been riding for three months now and haven't even spilled the first
blood. How boring. Only time I've wore any pads is when I went
practicing riding down stairs. My balls started to ache but nothing
else. I have tried MUni and hopping curbs etc.

Oh yes (I will use my karate padding for that purpose)
but I am waiting anxiously for the KH leg pads to be on sale ...
and my birthday is next week

dredging this from the depths after 'smash elbow'

trying to pull a coleman slide on a skateboard (basically grab the board
and force the board to move parallel to the axles of the wheels). it's
supposed to be a relatively safe way to stop, compared to foot
braking.

broke my fibula near the ankle. they say it's real common to break that.
decomissioned for 6 weeks, the plus side being some good exercise for
the upper body.

moral: don't attempt a trick you've never, ever seen done. and only
heard vague references of.

where's erin these days? i see flywheels on her skateboards, same as
mine.

edit: oh yeah.. then the surgery 2 weeks after to make sure i didn't
develop arthiritis in the joint. needed a plate and screws put in.
breaking stuff is quite a hassle.

I'm sure this is extremely common but I broke my thumb after attempting
to jump up a curb! Haha, man thats pathetic. I can't remember exactly
how I managed to screw it up but I ended up landing and kind of getting
my thumb a bit caught in the wheel.

Ripped the middle tendon in my left ankle in half. Does that count as a
sprain? Sprains are usually ligaments, not tendons, aren't they?

I sprained my ankle the first time I tried to go from chin on seat
riding into seat drag. It wasn't a very bad sprain though, and I
actually managed the transition probably less than a week later.

I sprained my little finger doing feet out hand wheel walk. My finger
got caught on the wheel somehow, and was very sore for several days.

Thankfully, I haven't broken any bones yet, although I have broken lots
of unicycle parts.
