Many animals occasionally engage in homosexual behaviors (Ehrhardt &
Meyer-Bahlburg, 1981)


IS HOMOSEXUALITY LEARNED? IS IT CAUSED BY POOR FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS?

Two-thirds of homosexuals reported satisfactory or extremely satisfactory
relationships with father, three-fourths with mother (Robinson, Skeen,
Flake-Hobson, & Herman, 1982) These are similar to the results for
heterosexuals

Extensive 3-5 hour interviews of over 1000 individuals failed to find support
for psychoanalytical, social learning, or various sociological theories
(Bell, Weinberg, & Hammersmith, 1981)

Children raised in homosexual households are not more likely to be homosexual
(Green et al., 1986; Kirkpatrick et al., 1981; Miller, 1979; Norton, 1987)

No evidence of any ill effects among children of homosexual parents
(Patterson, 1992)


ARE HOMOSEXUALS MENTALLY ILL?

No significant difference between heterosexuals and homosexuals in emotional
stability or rate of psychiatric illness (Reiss, 1980)

Homosexuals do not differ on measures of psychological health (Rothblum,
Solomon, & Albee, 1986)


WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF HOMOSEXUALITY?

Exposing pregnant rats to stress during last trimester causes increased
release of adrenal hormones, male rat pups respond sexually more to males
than females (Rhees & Fleming, 1981; Ward, 1972, 1977)

Prenatally stressed male rats reared with normal males and females approach
normal sexual responsiveness to females, but still respond sexually to other
males (Dunlap, Zadina, & Gougis, 1978; Ward & Reed, 1985)

Antiandrogen drugs (cimetidine, cyproterone acetate, flutamide,
medroxyprogesterone acetate) in pregnant rats cause male offspring to exhibit
female sexual behaviors (Ward, 1972)

Many other drugs (tricyclic antidepressants, barbiturates, reserpine,
benzodiazepines, diethylstilbestrol, pargyline, and marijuana) also block or
alter masculinization of the nervous system in rats (Hull et al., 1984;
Reinisch & Sanders, 1982)

Mothers of homosexuals reported mean stress levels of 2.3, compared to 1.5
for mothers of others (2.3 = higher stress than 1.5, on a scale of 1 - 4)
(Ellis, Ames, Peckham, & Burke, 1988)

Increase in incidence of lesbianism among females exposed to unusually high
levels of androgens during prenatal development (Ehrhardt, Evers, & Money,
1968; Money & Schwartz, 1977)

Incidence of homosexuality highest among monozygotic twins, next among
dizygotic twins, and lowest among adopted siblings (Bailey & Pillard, 1991)

Identical twins who have been adopted as infants by different families have a
higher likelihood of being homosexual than ordinary siblings raised together
in the same family (Eckert, Bouchard, Bohlen, & Heston, 1986)


ARE THERE BIOLOGICAL DIFFERENCES BETWEEN HETEROSEXUALS AND HOMOSEXUALS?

Group 3 of the interstitial nuclei of the anterior hypothalamus is twice as
large in heterosexual male humans as in females and homosexual males (LeVay,
1991)

Anterior hypothalamic nuclei in homosexual men is half the density of
heterosexual men. This difference may lead to an alteration in gonadotropin
releasing hormone pulse/frequency which leads to a female pattern of
gonadotropin secretion in homosexual men (Elias & Valenta, 1992)

Anterior commissure of homosexual men is 18% larger than females, 34% larger
than heterosexuals. (Allen & Gorski, 1992)

Injections of estrogen cause increased release of luteinizing hormone in
females and male homosexuals, but decreased release in male heterosexuals
(Dörner, Rohde, & Krell, 1972; Dörner, Rohde, Stahl, Krell & Masius, 1975)


WHAT ARE THE CONCLUSIONS OF THE SCIENTIFIC COMMUNITY?

As of 1973, based on some of the studies above and many other similar
studies, the American Medical Association concluded that homosexuality is not
a mental illness, nor is it an abnormal medical condition. This is in line
with the conclusions of the American Psychiatric Association, the American
Psychological Association, and the scientific community at large.

The overwhelming weight of evidence suggests that sexual orientation is
determined in part by genetics, and in part by prenatal events which occur
between the 2nd and 5th month of pregnancy. High stress levels and various
pharmaceuticals which intefere with prenatal testrosterone levels appear to
contribute to homosexuality. There are clear physiological differences,
specifically in brain function, between homosexuals and heterosexuals.

There is also a clear difference between homosexual orientation, and
homosexual behavior. Various sociological and psychological factors may cause
heterosexuals under certain conditions to engage in homosexual behavior, but
homosexual orientation appears to be biologically determined by the time of
birth.

Two additional notes. First, the overhwelming majority of child sexual abuse
is committed by heterosexuals (check crime statistics to confirm). Second, in
places like Africa, Malaysia, India, the Carribean, and other places as well,
AIDS is spreading faster in the heterosexual population than in the
homosexual population (check CDC stats to confirm).

I doubt that this will change anyone¹s mind. But note that if you believe
that homosexuality is a mental illness or a disease, or that it is caused by
weak fathers or gay scoutmasters or various other social conditions, you are
at odds with half a century of scientific research.

To 'Darwinise' homosexuality would imply that it is hereditary. Apart
from the lack of any evidence for this, if that were the case, then surely
we would be seeing a declining homosexual population, or one that would
have been extinct long ago.

Simply not true. The majority of paedophilia cases are adult males
against young females.
