Thomson posts are usually mounted on center of the post. They started
making set back posts to allow people who usually use posts with the
head offset from the center of the post to use a Thomson without
changing the seat position.

Taking something other than a straight line from BB to saddle clamp
permits shorter chainstays. Do you apply the same 'fail' comment to
Look for supplying 586, 595 and 596 frames with a 32mm offset post?

With all due respect here, I think you'll find that triathletes
usually move the seat 'forward', not backwards.

Lewis.

Trifreds have been going back and forth on this for at least a decade
now, it looks like from this quick scoop.

I wouldn't say that.

It's a Thomson post. Inherent to Thomson's manufacturing technique
(which does have some advantages), the 'bent' version may look odd but
has the same offset as Campagnolo, Nitto, etc.

A straight post (which I found impossible to adjust suitably on my own
bike) also looks odd to some.

If the designer had changed the seat angle to require a straight post
for a normal road position, other geometry issues would arise.

The catalog photo of the Sutra demonstrates a sophisticated aesthetic
for rack angles.
