Tandem carbon fork with 1" steerer
Does anyone make a carbon fork with 1" steerer for a tandem bike?
Note, the 1" steerer should be steel or metal, not carbon. Threaded or threadless, does not matter. Cantilever bosses wanted, although not absolutely necessary. Or maybe the question should be will any carbon fork with a 1" steerer work in a tandem? Do carbon forks need to be tandem specific or will any work safely? The fork would go on the first production year of a Cannondale tandem. They came with 1" forks. |

Here is the fork (and possibly others) that might work for you:

A buddy of mine came in with a fork for his new custom frame... full carbon, and the steerer was probably around 2 feet long and at least 5mm thick! Well I think you have a problem Dr Ruth may be able to help with. (Is Dr. Ruth still alive, active ??? I don't think a 1" CF fork would be safe for a tandem. Why would a 1" carbon fork with a steel or metal steerer be any more unsafe than any other fork with a metal steerer. As I said in my post "Note, the 1" steerer should be steel or metal, not carbon." I doubt the fork blades on 1" carbon forks are any spindlier than the fork blades on 1.125" or 1.25" carbon forks for tandems. Reynolds, WoundUp, True Temper all make carbon forks. BTW, I have the same model Cannondale Road Tandem. The fork is fine. I'm sure it is. But the person who owns the bike wants a carbon fork. Simple as that. Want is the only factor. The weight of the fork will be the only difference in ride. A CF fork would likely be stiffer. You could upgrade to a KHS 7005 Aluminum tandem frame and get more weight savings. |
