Well the council need somewhere to sweep all the broken glass don't they?
Maybe there's just not very much in that area so they don't need long cycle
lanes.

To be vaguely fair to Edinburgh council (For 'tis they) there are a
whole collection of these beasts on the A7 (for 'tis that road). I ride
the route every day when travelling to work. As far as I can tell, they
can't have a bus lane (Greenway) that covers an entrance since that
would legally prohibit vehicles from using side roads during Greenway
hours. The Greenway is also for bikes, and thus the tiny stretches of
cycle lane link the lengths of Greenway. Admittedly, the line I take on
this road (Downhill!) is generally the centre of the Greenway, so I
bypass the cycle tracks altogether, but they are not as completely
useless as the photographer would have us believe.
