a cautionary tale
While some of us where racing around a forest near Canberra for 24hrs
Craig Gordon (who won last year) was competing in the "World Championships" in Atlanta. He won, defeating the 6 time winner Chris Eatough, but nearly paid very very dearly; http://www.velonews.com/race/mtn/articles/11025.0.html and a similar result for an ultramarathon race http://auburnjournal.com/articles/20.../01western.txt Be careful out there peoples Parbs |

That's a remarkable performance, but possibly not the brightest thing he's done. |

As a side note, there is a rule in Ironman triathlon that says you're not allowed to crawl, (it's bad publicity for the event.) Friday |

Friday Until very recently there was a specific exception that says you can crawl in an ironman event (but not any other triathlon). It was part of the legend that made the event what it is... According to Triathlon Australia rules from Nov 2002, Rule 88 says you may not crawl. 90 e. If medical staff assess that intervention is necessary and assistance is rendered before a competitor crosses the finish line, the competitor is to be removed from the competition and is to be ruled as 'did not finish' (DNF). Where, after crossing the finish line, a competitor collapses or undergoes other severe physical trauma, he/she may be moved clear of the immediate area of the finish line without penalty, and if necessary may be given appropriate medical treatment. Can't see any exemptions for Ironman, unless they come under a different organisation. |
