Dead cyclist finally ID'd.
I-10 hit-run victim was Navy veteran
ARIZONA DAILY STAR Authorities on Tuesday identified a bicyclist killed earlier this month when he was struck on Interstate 10 by a big rig. Edward William Rose, 63, was riding his bicycle on the interstate near Marana on Dec. 13 when he was killed in a hit-and-run collision. The last known address for Rose was in Bisbee, though investigators said they believe he has not lived there for some time. Rose was originally from California and had been living in southeastern Arizona since 1980. He was a Navy veteran who served on the USS Enterprise. His last known occupation was in-home caretaker, according to a news release from the state Department of Public Safety. Rose was identified by his fingerprints. Detectives still are looking for the truck that hit Rose and are interviewing witnesses, said DPS Officer Frank Torres. Anyone with information may call 746-4500 or 88-CRIME, the anonymous tip line of the Pima County Attorney's Office. |

In-home caretakers can easily have a low social profile and the fingerprints going to an arrest or Department of Defense record may have been the only easily available public record. Besides, for the person that died, the quicker the better. The nurses assistant that had the man stuck in her windshield comes to mind as a much less acceptable alternative. I never saw the results of that, but if anyone deserves a long separation from society... Curtis L. Russell Odenton, MD (USA) Just someone on two wheels... Sort of pathetic that when this guy was just some bicyclist who was run over on the highway no one thought anything about him. Chung will triumph in the end - I can only hope to be a dot somewhere on my own in the fourth quadrant. I'm dedicating the rest of my life to developing non-correlative attributes, but my wife is starting to worry. Curtis L. Russell Odenton, MD (USA) Just someone on two wheels... |

That's true but what continues to go through my mind is that some drugged out hippy walked out onto the freeway by my house near midnight back in the 70's. He was struck by a car and killed. This was unfortunate but understandable. The driver was somewhat high himself but had the walker not been on his way to the fast lane there wouldn't have been a death. But the absolutely shocking thing to me was that there was a line of cars behind the body stopped. They began DRIVING OVER THE CORPSE! Perhaps 3 cars did this before I went ballistic. Luckily a cop got there about that time and the rest routed around the deceased or else there's a good chance that there'd have been some related deaths. But I NEVER forgot what people are willing to do to other people they don't know. |
