Default Stelvio per sempere

For riders who enjoy great mountain roads and historic places, I can
recommend one above most. Passo Stelvio in the three country corner
of (formerly) (CH) (A) (I) before Adolf Hitler decided South Tyrol
actually should be Italian and gave it away.

I was fortunate to ride there before motor vehicles rose to their
current levels and got the road upgraded to paving. Today we even
have a WEB-CAM to keep us abreast of what's going on at 2770 msm:

and good pictures of what there is to see at:

or a whole mess of outings, many of which went over this grand road.

I am so emotionally overwhelmed that I am at a loss for words at the
summit having been there often in the past 50 years, hearing only
Giuseppe Verdi's 'va Pensiero' ("give it a thought") the music that,
for me is classic for such fabulous places:

Claudio Abbado with La Scala orchestra and chorus.
Hear it... feel it!

Ride bike! ...and remember, it can snow any day of the year in the
Alps. Be prepared, ye boy scout. I have seen it and done it.

Jobst,

I missed your annual Europe ride report this summer. They are always
very inspiring and were my motivation for cycling up the Stelvio (and
other passes) to experience this for myself. As well, I have always
appreciated your informative posts in wreck.bicycles.tech

Certainly your posts are one of the things that makes reading the
newsgroups worthwhile.

Regards,
DL
