The scary thing about cycling these days is that you people really do
believe these things. We can all have a bit of unfriendly banter online,
but I am a father and a grandfather who is loved and needed by his
family, just the same as you people, and you actually wish me dead
because I cycle to work. I have absolutely no doubt that many of you
people would clip a pushbike rider on a country lane, leave them for
dead and drive off. It's been done many times and the simple reason is
that a human being who slings his leg over a saddle, be he a road
sweeper or a banker, is considered a lesser human being. Even more
worrying is that I doubt any of you are like this in real life. You have
families of your own, people who you pray will come home safe at night,
yet you get behind the wheel of a car and something happens to you. I
wish I knew what it was. I strive to drive to a higher standard every
day. Mostly I think I get there.

I don't wish any harm to cyclists, all I wish is that they would behave
themselves and stop being a nuisance to everyone else.

No we don't. But we would like you attacked by geese! That would be
soooo funny!

Motorists pay £46 billion a year in extra taxes, specifically so they
can use the roads.
Less than £10 billion of this is spent on roads.
Q: Do cyclists pay any specific, extra taxes in order to use their
vehicles on the road?
A: No. They are sponging freeloaders.

Geese might be attracted by the smell of crotch cheese.

Who, exactly, "wishes [you] dead"?

Nobody wishes you, or any cyclist, dead purely because you cycle to work.

I have absolutely no doubt that many of you people would clip a pushbike
rider on a country lane, leave them for dead and drive off.

I have absolutely no doubt that you, as a cyclist, would clip a child or
elderly person on a pavement and ride off, leaving them for dead. It's been
done many times.

It's been done many times and the simple reason is that a human being who

It's all about perception. People generally have a low opinion and
expectation of cyclists which is reinforced by seeing their dismissive
attitude to the law and other people when cycling, and reading some of the
foul-mouthed abuse written in this group by cyclists. Not to mention the
paragraphs of speculation as to why a pedestrian/cyclist collision must have
been the pedestrian's fault. Seeing cyclists tearing across pedestrian
precincts or jumping red lights doesn't change attitudes, it reinforces
them. But there is a world of difference between treating cyclists with
contempt, and wishing them dead. Sometimes natural selection wins, it's the
way of the world.

Well put.
